We're back!

We thank the Lord for granting us a wonderful vacation & bringing us safely home again last weekend! Sorry, I have been busy gardening till now and not blogging...

We left on Friday, May 15 for Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where we had found a wonderful bed & breakfast place, on a working Amish dairy farm! We stayed there for 3 days, till Monday morning when we left for Williamsburg, Virginia. Here are some of the highlights from the Miller's farm... more to come about the rest of the trip later. Below is the farmhouse, surrounded by beautiful gardens.

There was an old-fashioned oven in the wall
near the back of the house.

Their four friendly Belgians in the background do all the fieldwork.
Rosie is a people-loving dog whose favourite pastime is to chase
any animal or bird in sight!

Sunday was Bethany's birthday! (or "Betty," as she calls herself now.) We love our special little two-year-old! She loved her present --
an Amish doll that came in its own carry bag with bottles, etc.

Here's she's about to enjoy her birthday pie -- Amish shoo-fly pie is so delicious! Mrs. Miller gave us one on Saturday morning and on Sunday morning as well, and the second pie was the chocolate version -- wow!
Bethany had lots of fun with this pan there :)
To the left of their barn below is the Miller's buggy -- they own no car & use no electricity in their home, but for some unknown reasons are allowed to supply their guests' apartment with electricity... We bought a book about the Amish, if anyone wants to borrow it for more explanations of the Amish lifestyle. :) I had a full kitchen there, & there were beds for 6 of us, with Daniel & Bethany in playpens. All for $105/night, which included our breakfasts... not bad, since it was hard for us to find a hotel room that would sleep 8 people for less than that. (fire regulations)
Helping out the friendly Miller boys (ages 5, 7, and 9) with
some of their chores was great fun for our kids! :)
Here they are feeding silage to the cows, & they also gathered eggs.
The inside of their buggy is unexpectedly quite fancy...
Below is their friendly horse Butch, who pulls their buggy.
Too bad we missed the Miller family on their way out
to church Sunday morning...
Diamond, Duke, Jeff, & Jack enjoyed all the attention. :)

Here's one of Mrs. Miller's amazing breakfasts,
everything homemade -- what a treat each morning!

The youngest Miller boy didn't mind being
on a picture with our kids.

The boys had many bareback pony rides on the miniature horse, Spot. Timmy did fall off once when someone cause Spot to break from a trot into a canter, but thankfully he didn't get hurt & climbed back on soon after. :)
