Venus

For the last week or so, every evening Venus has been shining brightly in the north-west -- you can't miss it! (unless it's a cloudy night) Last Thursday it was very close to the moon...

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.

Psalm 19:1-2

The following night Venus was lower down.

Answers in Genesis Announces:

Answers in Genesis is releasing some of our most popular videos online—for free. Each week you will be able to enjoy a new video segment from some of our speakers like Ken Ham, Dr. David Menton, Dr. Jason Lisle, Dr. Terry Mortenson ... and more!

This week's video is even relevant to what occurred yesterday. Dr. Menton mentions the Loeb-Leopold murder trial of 1923, in which Loeb & Leopold's evolutionary thinking was blamed for the murder they committed. To learn more, watch Part 3 of Inherently Wind: A Hollywood History of the Scopes Trial, by Dr. David Menton.

Here's a question from David Demick in his recent Creation Magazine article, "Who's Inheriting the Wind Now?":
Has the teaching of evolution (and its close attendant, humanism) made American schools and children better or worse? It's easy to cite statistics showing that violence, drug use, and sexual immorality have increased greatly among America's youth...
The soil from which this lawlessness grows is the unopposed teaching of evolution...

(He mentions the Columbine massacre, which) ...was not an isolated event; there have been many more such violent school incidents in recent years.

Virginia Tech

This is really worth reading -- it is a response to
yesterday's tragedy, written by Doug Phillips.

Joanna's Baptism

We were priviledged to witness the sign & seal of God's gracious covenant upon our little niece yesterday, at Living Waters URC.

"Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God,
the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy
for a thousand generations
with those who love Him and keep His commandments."

Deuteronomy 7:9

"For the promise is to you and to your children,
and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Acts 2:39

Daniel & Josiah get along just great --
it was suddenly their idea to start hugging!

More from Good Friday

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, Who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,

Then anew this song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Philip Paul Bliss

(Thanks, Charlene, for taking so many pictures!!)

Fellowship Lunch

After the service this morning, our church family
(about 100 of us) enjoyed a wonderful roast beef dinner together.
Thanks, Mom & all the rest of you, for all your hard work!
All praise be to our dear Saviour, Who cried, "It is finished!"
having redeemed us to God by His blood.
May we, His beloved bride, ever love & serve & glorify Him together!

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!
Revelation 5:12

Praise the Savior now and ever;
Praise Him, all beneath the skies;
Prostrate lying, suff’ring, dying
On the cross, a sacrifice.
Vict’ry gaining, life obtaining,
Now in glory He doth rise.

Good Friday

But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,
with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

...now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Hebrews 9:11-14; 26-28
