Jamestown

On Thursday we headed out to Jamestown for another fun, educational field trip! Here the kids are in the fort, where they especially enjoyed learning how to fire a musket. :) BTW in case you didn't know this, if you ever want to see these collages more clearly, just click on them.


FYI, from Wikipedia:
In December 1606, the Virginia Company of London sent an expedition to establish a settlement in the new colony of Virginia. Three ships (the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery) left England with 104 men and boys, 39 of which were the ships' crew. The ships reached the New World after an unusually lengthy trip sailing across the Atlantic Ocean (144 days!).

The Susan Constant, (the replica is below) only 116 feet long, was the largest of the ships led by Captain Christopher Newport on the voyage that resulted in the founding of the first permanent English settlement in North America, Jamestown.
